Microsoft released two updates on July 8, 2008 that causes you to loose internet connection especially if you have Checkpoint Software's ZoneAlarm Firewall (Free & Paid Version). Removal of these updates and the prevention of these updates from being re-installed is relatively simple.

  1. The first thing you should do is prevent the update from being re-installed into your computer. Start by clicking on the Start Menu
  2. Right click on "My Computer"
  3. Left click on "Properties"
  4. Left click on the "Automatic Updates" Tab
  5. Under Automatic Updates select the third option "Notify me but don't automatically download and install them"
  6. Select "Ok"
  7. Next you need to manually remove these updates. Start by clicking on "Start Menu"
  8. Left click on "Control Panel"
  9. Double left click on "Ad or Remove Programs"
  10. In the upper right hand corner of the new window check the box labeled "Show All Installed Updates"
  11. Scroll all the way down to the Windows XP updates and locate KB951748 and select "Remove"
  12. Say "Yes" to any pop up windows.
  13. Once the update is done uninstalling itself select the check box "Do Not Restart" and click "Finish"
  14. Locate Windows Update "KB951978" and select remove
  15. Once the update is done uninstalling itself restart your computer
